Ok, so I'm about to blow what little credit I have left with you people, but I saw Marley & Me, and enjoyed it. Not only were the cockles of my black, black heart warmed, but they were so warmed that I cried. Curse you sentimental, yet adorable, animal movies!

Aniston was a little stiff in parts, but I would so watch her and Wilson as cinematic partners again, and again. Wilson put in a surprisingly restrained performance, more every guy, than stoner. They make a good 'average' couple: just enough lines on their faces, enough salacious tabloid drama to keep them from being too average, too ordinary. This was not, I want to stress, a chick click. It's absolutely a boy-meets-dog story, but one where the boy grows up, gets married and gets a life. As much as it (predictably) tugged on my heartstrings, and took a few entirely too obvious plot paths, I appreciated it. I particularly appreciated that John, our leading human male, learned both the value of ambition and self-confidence, and humility, self-knowledge and partnership. I liked that it wasn't a simple trade off.

Certainly not Oscar material, but a nice movie.

I read the original memoir. It was pretty good, although it got overhyped in the bookstore where I used to work to the point where I got kind of sick of it. I haven't gone to see the movie for that reason, but it looks okay.

There should be more nice movies.

Agreed. More comfortable movies.

I might pick up the memoir eventually. My too-read list is ridiculous though.
