Oh man, I read that post and was tempted to comment, but I knew it was best for my sanity if I didn't. I mean, what the hell? People not doing fandom the way you do fandom does not mean it's "no longer fandom but something else" or whatever crap she was spouting.
After getting into fic fandom, for a while I would always say my first fandom was Vampire Chronicles, because that was when I first started writing and reading fic and I knew that's what people in this area of fandom considered Fandom. But the years I spent in Digimon fandom researching and translating and running a huge-ass website and drawing fanart and discussing canon were not any LESS FANNISH just because I wasn't interested in fanfic! In fact, I was more fannish about Digimon than I have been about just about anything I've written fic for, in terms of having that love and obsession for a fandom.
