Or, if you're sharing an apartment or house, you can split the bill amongst a few people. And there's always theft. So many people in my neighborhood steal wifi, cable tv etc. etc. Actually, I grew up with stolen cable, back when we were really struggling. At that point, the vast majority of families in my neighborhood were stealing cable, but once prices came down, they started paying for it. /the more you know

But I do like the idea of internet access being understood as a right, because then it will be easier to get aid for developing the infrastructure for it.
BTW your late, late Help_haiti story - I think I might write you two? I've got one of them mostly done but it's from the pov of a newspaper writer, who's covering the developing story of Steve, Tony and their adopted pony (yes really), so I thought I'd give you a cute S/T ficlet to go with it.
