It always amazes me when people say they're too difficult to use.

So use them. Please.

After all, what is good for the goose is better for the gander.
Especially for the long, long, long treatises on Canadian Law. Especially the treatises on Canadian law.
Speaking of which, I wonder if US gay citizen will rush the border to have a marriage. It will not have any bearing on their status as US citizens in terms of law, but it would still be a rather wonderful way to mark a partnership- and increase Canada's tourism, besides.

*giggle*

No, Canadian law should never be cut tagged. Not ever. It gets special dispensation!

Americans can get married in Vermont. So.

Okay, so law get a special dispensation *giggle*
On the Vermont thing, it is *not* marriage, as defined by your court and everday usuage. It is a registered partnership, which allows for the couple to have the advantages of legal marriage (property and taxes easements). However, it i s only good in Vermont and perhaps NH ( I forget). And if the couple move anywhere else in the US, they will have a tough time with local laws (see Texas, Florida, et al).
Since it is not a Federal law, states are free to diregard other laws that states set on citizens. They usually don't, but they do.

Huh, I hadn't realized that - obviously. Well, then yes, Americans will be increasing our tourist revenues with their weddings, I would think. *g* So that's why we did it!

LOL!
But seriously, I am happy that Canada has chosen to honor the right to pursue happiness...something that I thought the USA was supposed to be about...

Dana, somewhat embittered 1st generation american.

Dana! America is about honouring the right to be a puritanical, intolerant bigot. Get your facts straight. ^_-
