Yes, really. I've just been super busy with work and projects that I'm running under my real name, and haven't had any extra time for this identity.

In a spasm of organizational compulsivity, I decided to clean out my LJ/DW inboxes and accidentally deleted eeeverything, including all the correspondence from the Scans Daily days. So hey, if I had incriminating private messages that I was holding over you, they're now gone! Sweet sweet freedom.

I can't remember how I got into the show in the first place, but I watched the first season in two days and now I'm a confirmed fan. The cast is a delight, although I find the lead and his dramadramadrama can get tiresome--they need to either kill off Trevor in the second season (or send him to prison), or amp up those kinds of plots considerably. They seemed to increasingly become an afterthought, as the season progressed, even while the show took the time to hang lampshade on top of lampshade, on Mike's poor life choices.

Generally, I really liked the first season. It's light, and quick, and fun, and my goodness, the cast is just so much fun. Harvey, Donna, Louis and Jessica can come over for tea and NEVER LEAVE. Mike too, if he doesn't spend the afternoon complaining about how mean Harvey is.

One thing that's interesting is how many visual echoes there are from Mad Men. They're very different shows, and I'm not suggesting that Suits is trying to be a kind of Mad Men Lite (it's really really not), but the set decoration, costuming, and hair and makeup, are full of callouts to Mad Men nostigia-fetishim, and to you know, the actual entertainment of that bygone era. Harvey Specter, you guys, even his posture. And then it's contrasted with Mike's skinny ties and sometimes-dishevelment, all the women in positions of power, and the less sea-of-white offices of Pearson Hardman.

I think this would be a fun show to review... Is there good Suits meta? I'd like to read about Mike, the American Dream, the criminal self-made man, and the resurgence of Greed Is Good.

PS. Jessica has amazing hair. Just amazing.

I've had this thing for the last few years, where I start (and even finish) writing stories on memes, and then lose them. Right now I'm looking for a Social Network/Stargate Atlantis thing I started but didn't finish--maybe on the Social Network meme? Eduardo was recruited by Elizabeth as a negotiator/policy guy, and Rodney kept borrowing him to do math. I think I left off with Eduardo going on a trade mission and getting lost? idk idk

So if you're ever reading on a meme, thinking to yourself, "Hey, this tension-filled story that lacks a satisfactory emotional resolution seems like something schmevil would write," you may well be correct. Unfortunately, I won't be able to confirm or deny, because by then I'll have forgotten that I wrote the damn thing.

I did manage to track down an unfinished Teen Wolf teamfic that I lost, so hey. Not a total failure.

Hey hey. I have been so uninvolved in fandom that I forgot that I signed up for remix and I forgot that I finished some stories, wtf. Best get on that.

So on FFA people are talking about how terrible Marvel fandom is. Having come of age in Harry Potter fandom, I find myself thinking "Naw gurl, naw." The part of LJ/DW fic culture I'm familiar with has always been pretty civilized (outside of pits like FFR), and generally speaking, I think it's gotten less critical over the years, and far more cult of nice, at least as far as writing criticism goes.

I haven't had an outstandingly mean comment on a story since I was in Smallville (and shit, that was one limpass flame), and I'm all about readers being encouraged to respond however they please. Certainly I prefer long, detailed reviews and conversations, but I make no bones about welcoming criticism. Flames even--the most I'll do is some flocked loling. But the flames haven't come. Reviewers in Marvel and Supernatural fandoms have been unfailingly polite. Granted, I'm an unproductive, uncontroversial, non-porny NNF, but in HP everyone took some bad hits. Whether it was your first ever story, or your thirtieth, someone would pop out of the woodwork to call you a delusional hack and request that you die in a fire, posthaste.

Between YKINMK, "Stories are gifts!" and the widely accepted assumption that readers should ask before giving constructive criticism, or posting public reviews, there simply isn't a lot of room for actually talking about writing. Let it happen on anon memes. Haters gonna hate, and most everyone else is pretty damn nice.

So I'm working on an Avengers story, the first draft of which is, GET THIS, almost done. inorite? It's going to be a short, bare bones thing that I'll have to attack with a bucket of characterization spackle and a trowel, but it's ALMOST DONE. It's got alternating Tony and Steve pov, with Natasha and Maria Hill playing supporting roles, and some Maddy Pryor thrown in for kicks (honestly, anything to keep her away from Scott). Basically, Tony tries to catch a plane.

Anyone down for beta/pre-read duties?

Unrelated-- so this alpha/omega self-lubricating ass trend. Has anyone tried to science this up and actually explain how this works and why, from an evolutionary perspective, it's an advantage?

No more Avengers high school AUs until someone writes former X Games champion!Tony, ex-circus clowns!Natasha&Clint, part time performance artist!Bruce and... Steve and Thor stay the same. Everyone's still a superhero. They're just flashier. Tony, Natasha, Clint and Bruce have dance breaks in the SHIELD mess hall. At some point Tony does a 360 flip off Hulk's back. In battle. In the armor. Natasha and Clint combat evil with slapstick and pie. Bruce combats evil with interpretive dance, while in interpretive body paint. Steve and Thor don't despair, and in fact, less than secretly love all of it. Throw in a rap battle and then, THEN, fandom, I might just be satisfied.

Anonymous Finds Ron Paul under Supremacist Rock. brb loling forever. If you follow me on Twitter, you already know my capital v Views on Ron Paul and those who've been willing to forgive his ties to racists. So this is some good schadenfreude material for me.

Patrick Stewart is going to be at Toronto's FanExpo this summer, which is yay. However, so are Kevin Smith and Jason Mews, which is nay. It's kind of a mixed bag at this point. I will definitely be going (here's hoping I can score press/vendor access by some miracle of shady dealing, or actual effort) but I can't say that I'm particularly excited at this point. It's the panels that usually get me going though, so.

I haven't decided where to concentrate my efforts next, but I'm hoping to have enough stuff posted, in enough large fandoms, that I'll have the option to sign up for Remix, without leaning on my ancient Harry Potter stuff. Maybe I'll do a series of Emma/Charles ficlets and incur the wrath of the poor soul who's assigned to me... A handful of Buffy ficlets would also help.

So hey, you know what I kind of want to write? Tara Thornton: Agent of SHIELD. She comes back from the dead ~unkillable and angry, therefore, shadowy government agency.

I think my most hated character arc for Tony Stark is, "Tony Learns How To Be A Good Bourgeois Boy," where becoming (upper) middle class in terms of outlook, means becoming normal.

I kind of don't have the energy to fully expand on this idea right now, but the logic seems to be that taking on bourgeois mannerisms and behaviours means becoming a better, more normal person. ie. better living through dish washing, and no longer jet setting but staying home for family time with the team. It's not that I think that Tony's lifestyle is admirable, but that acting out a bourgeois lifestyle when you're one of the richest men in the world, is a bit gross, and could only ever be that--acting. I think Tony is most interesting as an Avenger, when you maintain the distance imposed by class, and influence. It creates a wonderful constant tension.

(Second most hated: Tony leads an unhealthy lifestyle. Let's force him to become a better person by hiding the coffee and forcing him to sleep!)

Just, Tony inhabits a particular super rich bubble, midway between Silicon Valley and New England old money, by way of the military industrial complex. His values and lifestyle are bit wonky even for the super rich. I'm far more interested in seeing how he can figure out to do good, without pretending to be something he isn't. Which is something that, by and large, the comics do well--Tony leverages those incredible (monetary, industrial, social, personal) resources to try to make the world a better place. Very often not successfully, but hey, storytime fun.

I'm pushing forward with my Finish Old Crap project, and I've got another Kripked Supernatural story about ready to go. It's going to be ~10,000 when I'm done with it. Dean/Castiel, unspoken starcrossed romance, bittersweet ending and metaphysics. It's much tighter than my previous Old Crap story, but there are some desert dry parts, and I could use some advice on the Kripked elements and a general read through.

It's how feeder kink can be in the same meme as underage, noncon, bestiality, and tickling. YKINMK is invoked in cases of kink shaming. So you don't like foot fetish? Refrain from kink shaming and scroll on by -- YKINMK and that's ok.

Question: have people truly bought into it, or is YKINMK just the price of doing business? Or put differently, does YKINMK conceal mutual disgust and tension, thereby making it possible for people with dissimilar tastes to get along? Or does YKINMK represent now common actual fannish* attitudes to each others' kinks?

*At least as far as kinkmemes go.

BTW, I don't really want to get into the SPN Blindfold thing right now. I'll just end up throwing things. Please don't.

A week ago I made a grumbly flocked post about the lack of interaction on LJ these days - comment levels, lack of meta, lack of sprawling discussions ... and it turned into a very busy post indeed. Seems I'm not alone missing the meta, and metafandom as a way to get the word out to the larger fannish community. In the comments, sholio and I did some brainstorming for what could be done about this situation, and here's what we came up with:

The Meta Month of March

Basically, we want to have a proper meta fest in March. It's very simple:

Beginnng mid-February, we'd ask people to sign up for posting meta – either general meta or fandom-specific meta - during the month of March.

In March, on your designated date you'd post your meta or a link to it in the fest community on LJ and/or on DW, and we’d all descend upon your post to enjoy and discuss. :)

Additional meta you didn't sign up with would of course be very welcome, including follow-ups to previous discussions.

Absent Aboriginal Fathers

There are many statistics. The percentage of Aboriginal children being raised by a single parent -- usually the mother -- is double the percentage of other Canadian children. One in 5 First Nations women over the age of 15 is a single mom. And if statistics don't change, a growing number of Aboriginal boys will typically become absent dads themselves. We hear from CBC Reporter, Geoff Leo who has been looking into this story and from a professor at the School of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria.

*Did you catch this morning's same sex marriage confusion?

The renewed attention was sparked by the case of an unidentified lesbian couple who married in Canada in 2005 but split up in 2009. The partners are living in Florida and the United Kingdom. Both women want a divorce, but cannot get one where they now live because the state of Florida does not recognize their marriage, and although the U.K. grants civil partnerships to same-sex couples, it does not recognize the Canadian marriage.

The couple went to court last June seeking a Canadian divorce, despite the federal Divorce Act's one-year residency requirement, which they do not meet. Their submission argues the rules are discriminatory, and the couple is seeking $30,000 in damages for negligent misrepresentation by the province of Ontario if their marriage is found to be invalid.

But in addition to the residency requirement, a submission from a federal government lawyer in response to the couple's case cites another reason for refusing to grant the divorce — that they are not legally married.

Documents released Thursday show the government arguing that "in order for a marriage to be legally valid under Canadian law, the parties to the marriage must satisfy both the requirements of the place where the marriage is celebrated... and the requirements of the law of domicile of the couple with regard to their legal capacity to marry one another." (CBC.ca).

Harper says he has no intention of re-opening the debate on same sex marriage.

I think it's likely that the divorce law will be amended if that's what's necessary to clear this up. The CPC isn't going to win anything from causing ANOTHER international human rights kerfluffle.

There should be a Marvel movieverse fic where Fury goes to the circus, discovers Clint, recruits him for SHIELD, and then regrets it for the rest of his days, because MY GOD WHAT A DICK. Coulson is stuck running herd on him, because no one else can manage him. Then when Tony comes on board as a consultant and everyone is marveling over his dickery, they decide to sic Clint on him. Of course, this backfires spectacularly, and the two join forces. Double the mouthiness, twice the inappropriate pranks, ALL THE EGO, JUGGLING.

In Still Water, We See
Supernatural, Dean/Castiel, ~12500
Castiel died. The Apocalypse was put off. Sam and Dean went back to their pre-angel life less ordinary. A year later Bobby called with the good news, Cas was back and he was sticking around for awhile.

I finally just said fuck it, and posted the damn thing. It's been taunting me for years. I mean, it could use SO MUCH editing, but emotionally, I'm done with this monster. DONE. Maybe next week I'll write a post about this stupid story, and all my enormous feelings about its blah-blah-blah-ness, and why 90% of it takes place in Bobby's kitchen. Because OMG. I wrote about two thirds of it in season five, and just got back to it recently. It's unfinished-ness was pissing me off.

Anyway, I'm really not selling this, huh? It's an ok read, though, despite the fact that nothing happens in it. Seriously, shutting up now. (THIS STORY).

Ignore that last. I'm just making sure I have all the necessities covered in my ridiculously bare bones profile. I don't get around as much in fandom these days, so I figured that a quick policy rundown was a good idea.

You know, I started writing fic kind of as an exercise in trolling. It's weird to think I'm still at it (albeit in dribs and drabs), a decade later. It's interesting too that while some of my attitudes and interests have changed drastically, others are pretty much the same. When I was in Smallville fandom, the story I was most interested in was that of Lex's mom. Now I'm trying to figure out Tony's mom's story. And when I was in Harry Potter fandom, I either wanted to write moody DOOM stories, or the Slytherins playing board games and having food fights. Now I... write moody DOOM stories, and Tony making scientificly perfect candy, or God being a Duck.
