I went for sushi with my friend J. We were just going to get our food, eat, and then go our separate ways to study. Yeah, no. We watched the latest episode of BSG during dinner. A good time was had by all, except you know, the characters in the show, who haven't had a good time in a long while. Then I told him about my new baby, Death Note, and we watched a couple of eps. This lead to a couple of eps of Monster, some Flight of the Conchords, and my favourite rap about George Washington.

Regarding BSG: I was still able to muster up some concern for Adama, but as to the rest of it? I think I have tragedy fatigue, because it didn't have much of an impact on me one way or another. Although I did notice that Baltar's looking foxy with that shorter hair. Rawr.

Regarding Death Note and Monster: can anyone rec me some shows in a similar vein (to either)?

One last thing, I suspect Death Note would make awesome drunk viewing... amirite?

Yesssss, I haven't seen that George Washington video in years. I forgot how awesome it is.

Um, you might like MPD Psycho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPD_Psycho)? It starts off with a protagonist who has muliple personalities and serial killers who are being programmed to kill via barcodes printed on their eyeballs, and from there gets into this vast conspiracy and all sorts of craziness. It's truly awesome and the art is beautiful. It's one of those really slow-ass manga, though, that release (in Japan) like one volume a year, so the wait can be excruciating. I've decided to set it aside until it finishes and then reread it from the beginning and pick up where I left off. There are also novels (not translated to my knowledge, but the are not necessary to enjoy the manga storyline) and a TV mini series which should be avoided at all costs because it's horrible. (Though also hilarious, so maybe watch it for the badness.)

He'll save children, but not the British children. :D

That sounds like a fun premise. I love me some good conspiracy sci fi. I'll have to check it out.

Perfect for parties!

Have you read/watched any Bleach (http://www.onemanga.com/Bleach/1/06/). It's vaguely similar to Death Note. I watch the anime; it's a lovely shade of dark, although it takes a while to get going.

I haven't. I don't watch a lot of anime because so much of what gets shown on tv here is what I like to call soap-bubble-sparkle-motion anime. I've heard of Bleach... thanks for the rec, I'll check it out. :)

Nobody ever finished translating it, but most cases are just a few episode arcs, but try Himitsu the Revelation.

If you can stand the character designs, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni for some decidedly creepy violence.

What's wrong with the character designs?

They're very cutesy and look like they belong in a porn game. Lots of people just can't stand the art and don't watch past half an episode, so they don't see how creepy it gets.

I think I can handle that, with your promise of serious creepiness. *g*
