I don't usually use my headphones with my computer. They're, well, very, very good, as well as being terrific at noise canceling. What I actually got them for was all the time I spend outside, a lot of it near heavy traffic. It's next to impossible to get good sound quality over truck and bus engines, and passing trains. With these headphones, I managed it and then some.

So I'm listening to music with them in my room, music I'm used to hearing only through the speakers I've never gotten around to upgrading, or on the radio and MY GOD, it sounds incredible. Guh. It's funny, I'm always singing the praises of a good set of headphones, but I'd forgotten how great these are, and how utterly, surpassingly great they are in an optimal environment. I'm finding nuances that have passed me by for years. Sublime.

Question - how many of you are last.fm users, and can I stalk you via the service? I have more music than I know what to do with, but that doesn't mean I don't want more!

I used to have a vast last.fm history as whatistigerbalm, but I didn't feel that the recommendations were as good as those in Pandora, so I deleted it. (Pandora analyses the music you listen to on a technical level, so to speak, so if it notices that you like choirs and brass and mandolins with a hint of electronica it will suggest similar sounding music; last.fm operates by user-entered tags so if you listen to folk music from Gascony it will suggest Edith Piaf because both are tagged as "French".)

But! 8tracks is my favourite musical hangout and I recommend it wholeheartedly. Am here: http://8tracks.com/whatistigerbalm

I have problems with both Pandora and last.fm. Obviously, last.fm has problems because people are morons, but Pandora can really get bogged down into genres, which is really quite limiting. Pandora's really only been useful if I'm listening to, say, Delta Blues or Renaissance choral music. The rest of the time, I try valiantly to convince it that I like neither grunge nor New Age to very little avail.

I'm on last.fm as Stubblecast, but I never actually listen to it any more. It threw up too many songs that I wasn't actually interested in and I discovered very few new things.

Also, on the subject of headphones, make sure that you have them plugged into the right bit of your laptop. Otherwise... your flatmate might not want to speak to you once you emerge out of your bedroom.

I think I tried using last.fm, but it just confused me, as I could only find samples of songs and I really didn't know what I was doing.

I think I'm either tammalee or tammylee on last.fm. I think...
XD As you can see, I don't use it often.

What sort of headphones do you use? I'm looking for a really good pair.
