For those of you who managed to miss it, *g* I ship Steve Rogers/Tony Stark. It's a small but growing ship, in a fandom that remains male-dominated, and discussion (rather than fanwork) oriented. The only truly active comm is cap_ironman.
I've written a few stories, read a bunch more, and met some great people. And while I haven't invested a tremendous amount of time in the S/T subfandom, my time there has been, and continues to be, overwhelmingly positive. I like S/T. I like the fanart, the fic, and my fellow shippers.
But seriously guys, WTH? cap_ironman has ~500 members. How has one tiny shipping comm spawned a hate meme, and now two anon rant comms? Not to mention all the nasty, too-personal trolling that's been going on. I think it's abundantly clear at this point that a rant comm isn't going to 'improve' the subfandom. (And I want to stress: subfandom. ~500 people!) FFS, if you think something is broken in your community (not enough kink! not enough gen! not enough Pepper!) then fix it. Make icons and art, write stories, solicit stories if you don't write, leave feedback. Instead of trolling, flaming and ranting, have a frank discussion with your fellow shippers about where you'd like to see the group go.
The Cult of Nice, is not going to show up at your journal armed with Fireaxes of Love, should you dare to criticize a popular writer, or fanon trope. The BNFs won't OMG RUIN UR LIVES if you don't kiss up to them. Dudes, be the change you want to see in your fandom. Put up or shut up. Insert additional cliches here! Stop the whiningand get off my lawn.

This porn is quite hard. It's Ultimates... and it's veered into weird (one day, I'll be not so weird), and gone from 2800 to 4600, and is replete with edits from a beta. If it weren't for the fact that I do believe in promises (and dorky did a drawing), I'd junk it.
