Supernatural 5.13

Ok so, lots to love in this ep. One thing to really, really hate.

But you guys already knew that, right?

The Bad

Let's get it out of the way:

WHAT THE FUCK, HOW YOU GONNA KILL ANNA!?

*rageflail x infinity*

Julie seems optimistic about a possible return, so I'm hoping against hope that Anna's just a little bit dead, and not wholly dead. Let's all cross our fingers, shall we? Anna is imho too important to lose. Not in the sense of her being a pivotal character - they've wasted her so completely she couldn't be that. But she and Castiel are the only rogue angels, and she is the only angel to live as a human. The show should make more use of that perspective. What's bothers me is that in addition to killing her off, they made it so... without question. Castiel is determined to kill her from the opening scenes. The brothers make no serious protest. What happened to not just up and killing people, Winchesters? Yes, your family and your very existences were in danger, but could you not have tried to reason with her? Come on. You've done it before. What happened to your respect for life, all that determination to beat the odds? FFS.

Julie, please be right on this. *clings*

The Good

FUCK YES URIEL!: I was so peeved when they killed Uriel off. What a missed opportunity. "Always happy to do some smiting!" he says, all chipper. YES. The show lost something, when they offed their best antagonistic angel, and cut out any possibility of an Angels-For-Lucifer storyline. With how S6 and the Lucifer-Michael relationship have played out, Uriel's position is far more understandable.

FUCK YES MICHAEL!: I'm incredibly happy that Michael is a douche. You have no idea. I'm much less happy that they're sticking so hard to the Sam-Dean = Lucifer-Michael parallel, because I think it's narratively lazy. The only thing that could make me happi- wait. There are two things that could make me happier, when it comes to Michael. 1) If he next uses a female vessel. Come ooooon. 2) If he at some point screams BATTLE a la Travolta.

The vessel-bloodline thing: I'm glad to have this settled. Doesn't thrill me, but I'm glad to see the writers doing some gap-filling. Extremely happy also, that Uriel used the same vessel twice, poor bastard.

Team free will vs. ~destiny: I'm not at all troubled by Michael's "As it has been written, so shall it be" blather, because a) let's face it, the angels have a vested interest in the Winchesters accepting their 'destiny'; b) the angels have a vested interest in believing that they are doing God's work, and that God's plan is so easily discerned. There's also the Castiel factor. Lucifer obviously didn't raise him, and neither did any of the angels. That leaves God, and guess what? Cas is on Team Free Will. Booya bbs.

John and Mary: Cute! *squishes them*

"Sam is my friend": D'aw Cas. That's right, you're done with your asshole angel ways, aren't you? And there will be NO BACKSLIDING. *stern look*

"The moustaches alone": Ha ha ha, oh Sammy. <3

Uh... yeah. Boys are alive. ANNA IS DEAD WTF!? JULIE YOU BETTER BE RIGHT. And the show goes on.
