now playing?

I've got $45 of credit to spend on iTunes. What are you guys listening to lately?

What are:

1. Your most recent musical acquisitions?

2. Your current top five songs?

3. Some lesser known artists you think I would like?

I recently did a linkspam for COLDER -- lots of YouTube content to give it a listen. They're... Electronica influenced by Joy Division, at least to me.

If you like Post-Punk and wish more bands would remind one of early The Cure material -- say, the "Pornography"/"Faith" years -- but without being a copy cat, I strongly recommend Feeding Fingers, especially their album "Wound In Wall". The homepage is http://www.feedingfingers.com/ and Justin Curfman has a YouTube channel and offers soundclips on the Discography page -- nice enough, the two songs I love most ("I Can't Breathe" and "Fireflies Make Us Sick") can be listened to in full. I also remember him leaving a comment on my blog when I embedded Fireflies there, which I found quite nice of him -- he seems to genuinely care what the fans think about his projects. Or perhaps it's because he didn't get much support in the US (shame!); he recently moved to Europe where his music apparently has found a much bigger audience.

The most recent acquisition was, I think, "Afterglow" by the Swedish band The Exploding Boy which I bought in April this year. Another guitar-heavy album, you can listen to their songs on their MySpace page. "Heart of Glass" was the initial reason for buying the album, but I also recommend "Intervention" and "40 Days". It's no wonder those get heavy rotation on the dancefloor.

Hah, I have no idea if you'll like these, I don't know you well enough (yet?). But they're pretty much at the top of my head when asked for recs. My current top five songs are a different matter though, and I think this comment is long enough already, so I'll stop here. I could ramble on and on about music and give people twenty recs while still feeling I've left out some very important artists, so...
