It's getting really unpleasant having the benefit of paid features on DW but not on LJ. I'd forgotten how freaking irritating LJ is without paid functions. Can't do this, can't do that. Ads, ads, every ads unless you're running an ad blocker. Not enough damn icons, when I've got so many to choose from on DW. Ugh. /whine

I recently celebrated a birthday. Friends and family know me well enough to get me books and food. I got a book of political philosophy, a cookie book, some Betty&Veronica comics, fudge, etc. etc. I don't think I'm nearly as hard to shop for as some people make it out. Books and food. Maybe a nice potted plant, a pair of mittens. I think the trouble is that my living space is so small, and always has been, that I've never be one for things. Books and comics I can make space for - everything else, not so much. My closet is divided and subdivided unto total free space extinction, storing clothes, shoes, luggage, blankets, important paperwork, old essays. My bookshelves are overflowing with the usual - books and comics - Happy Meal toys, cosmetics, plants, baskets of gadgets, more shoes. It's all organized, but whenever someone buys me, say, a french press, something inside me dies, trying to figure out what to do with it. :/ I cherish what carefully engineered space I have, like some people do their bank balances.

On a related note - it's about time for a book reorganization. After I have a few projects in the bag, my god. It also might be time to finally invest in some long boxes, or those stacking mini boxes... because I've reached the point of more books than I can reasonably keep track of, shelved three deep and in some places to the ceiling. (Yes I'm ridiculous).

Time to join a book exchange, maybe?
