Laaaayout 2
The lovely
eva_c has made an equally lovely new layout. Come look. Now, now, now. *stamps foot*
It's time once again, to make up my summer reading list. It will of course include those books I expect to need for next year and anything that might be of general use. However, pleasure must also be considered. Please do recommend me some nice things to read, bearing in mind that I have no interest in high (or low) romance, hardcore genre fiction or Bridget-esque trash.
BTW: My insomnia has kept me from anymore of J E L L O, as it tends to rape the silly. Except some tomorrow.

Re:
I'm not sure that I have any specific likes, or at least, nothing that could be easily articulated. I'll get back to you. ;-)
Ta, for the recs.
Re:
Allow me to add another rec to that-- Fight Club, by Chuck Palahniuk is another wonderful book, if you haven't read it. And I would easily recommend Oranges are not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson, but it is fiction (interspersed with fantasy, very wonderful metafic)-- and I'm not sure what you meant by hardcore fiction. : )
Hope you enjoy Slaughterhouse V, and I'm sure you will *g*
Re:
By hardcore genre fiction, I meant... Dragonlance and similar shite. Keep thy bad writing far from me!
Re:
Ah, yes. That stuff. I've never read Dragonlance myself-- though I do admit an unfortunate fascination with McCaffrey (even while my brain is screaming in horror). Though definitely do read FC & Oranges, they're at the top of my favourites list : )
Just as a side note, I thought you might be interested-- your lovely post on FA about heredity and fic inspired a story of mine that's just been uploaded to TDA. Actually, it takes the King Harry syndrome and explores that angle (in the sense of fate and narrative causality) because it was quite intriguing, even if I don't think that way. *plug alert* : ) Here (http://www.thedarkarts.org/authors/Pogrebin/WS.html) it is, anyway.
Re:
Oh! I certainly am interested - I'll go check that out right away. I'm always looking for interesting stories that tackle the Big Themes. ;-)
Cool layout!
*raises hand* I solemnly confess to McCaffrey-ism. It must be the slight slash reference in 'The White Dragon.'

Re: Cool layout!
I've never understood why, but everyone in my family likes McCaffrey and yet, we have such great taste, otherwise. It's a mystery.
Re:
Ah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has an irrational affinity to McCaffrey. It's insidious, that's what it is!
Re:
I think many female sf/fantasy fans are secretly members of the McCaffery cult. It's those damn dragons and spunky heroines.
BTW: Just finished Slaughterhouse V. I loved it. I'm going to go out and grab a couple more of his books.
Re:
*sighs happily at Slaughterhouse V* Isn't it brilliant? You must read Mother Night as well-- Howard Campbell Jr (he appears briefly in this one) is the main character. It's a little less developed than Slaughterhouse V, in my opinion, but still lovely. Do tell me how the Vonnegut quest turns out *grins*
Re:
I certainly will tell you how the quest goes, with the details and everything.
