of all the posts, this is my favourite:

Skud: Github, transparency, and the OTW Archive project. Code, organizational culture, and in the comments, the problem with finding volunteers (hey, it might be your process). So far my favourite post on the OTW/AO3 situation.

And this bit from Stewardess: Who first knew the mobile skins were broken? The site users. And how did the site developers know it was broken? Through support, who heard it from the users.

Support knows the impact of change better than anyone. "Hey, did you know mobile skins are entirely broken?" And support should know "And hey did you know approximately 20%* of site visitors use mobile browsers, so that means get on this now." And it's support who confirms "Yes, the fix worked, the site users are okay now." It is support who tells development "Hey, good job, you are done."

Support works for the users; everyone else works for support.

The op and commenters do a stellar job of laying out the hows of running and developing the archive (and similar projects), and how things could be done differently.
