I actually was thinking last Friday that I wanted to nominate you as a mod for scans_daily.

Wow, that's quite a vote of confidence! The largest community I've modded had 300 members, which is far off from SD's 6000-odd members. (I do wonder how many are active posters and commenters, though).

I think that for modding to be be effective, the comm would need a handful of active mods, and possibly some partimers, who could tag in when the primary mods needed a break. At least three mods, who got together regularly to discuss policy and issues in the comm. Part of the problem for [Unknown site tag] has to have come from a lack of resources - who wants to read every post? And if people aren't reporting wank regularly, she won't find it. SD is not a one-person job imo.

That said, I notice that [livejournal.com profile] rabican hasn't posted more than a one-liner since January, so there's obviously something going on IRL. It would have been nice if she'd announced she was leaving, so someone could sub in for her, because I do agree, there's been a lot of wank. I think the only thing that keeps the comm off of Fandom Wank, is the lack of interest there in comics fandom.

I'm sorry that the discussion about Maria Hill got so heated

Oh no! It went much better than I was expecting. I'm honestly shocked at how civil it was. CW wasn't even mentioned until day two of commenting, no one's made Iron Fascist cracks, Maria's sexuality was not speculated on, or criticized, and only two or three people acted like utter Aholes. That's amazing for a Maria Hill related post. The Tony post was even more amazing, because it was largely filled with squee. I was all "Is this really SD!?!"

It's also safe to say that S_D people aren't going to stop openly showing their dislike for her when people post about her

*nod* That's only natural and it wouldn't be fair of me to ask people to keep all the negativity out of my posts. I do really dislike the way some of that dislike gets paired up with misogyny, as it does with so many female characters. And too, the way that liking a particular character comes to be an indictment of a posters' personal character.

I don't mind it when people drift off into panel-by-panel analysis of something that doesn't have to do with the OP's scans. That's comics fandom, period. I often learn from those discussions, so I like them.

I don't dislike them in principle, but I do dislike them when they come in the context of "Dude, your post isn't cool. You know what's cool? Spawn." Which I think is insulting, as a poster and a reader. And of course no one wants their precious fanthing to be discarded in favour of someone else's PFT. *g* It gets excruciating when say, every post that involves She-Hulk has to involve 60 comments about the Juggernaut. Especially when there's been 5 posts that week. When people can't stop having the exact same argument argument for years, it gets annoying.

Though maybe I should just click away. ;)

The dislike of Civil War isn't going anywhere. People hated the story, hated the writing, and hated how it changed the MU. I don't know that there's anything that can be done about that, honestly.

*nod* And that's fair. I didn't really like it much myself, but I am enjoying some of the fallout (other stuff, not so much). It's not that I want people to stop hating it, or stop voicing their hate, because that's totally their prerogative. It's just that I'm tired of seeing new discussions get derailed in favour of having the same CW discussion again. I say 'same' because it's usually the same group of posters, making arguments that we've all seen before. I remember one post where someone, swear to god, near c&ped her lengthy argument about the constitutionality of CW TEN TIMES, in TEN different threads. I was struck dumb by the determination that every person reading that post heard her voice.

I'd love a CW-free week, just to see what we could pull out of the issues without bringing up the old grievances.

So that's my CW beef. ;)
