Reposted to my fic journal:
Mighty Dark to Travel (Full Fathom Five)
Fandom: X-Men Movieverse
Summary: After John is shot, Bobby loses control. (mid X2)
Character(s): Bobby/Rogue, Bobby/John
Word Count: 3333
Notes: I know medicine doesn’t work that way. Roll with the comic book science.
I really enjoyed writing this remix. The original story has several different povs, and I wanted to keep that but make it more explicit - really colour the situation differently in each part. So I added the perspectives of one of the cops who shot at Bobby, John, Rogue and Logan, and Bobby's brother Ronnie. I had the most fun writing the cop, an OC, and writing Rogue, who's in an ugly position in this story. The title comes from an old American blue grass song, and the funky remix title is of course from The Tempest.
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that does fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell:
Ding-dong,
Hark! Now I hear them – Ding-dong, bell.
The idea being that the road that John takes in the film, and that Bobby considers in this story is (duh) a dark one to travel, and this story, with five different povs, goes fully five fathoms deep (in that direction), or attempts to fathom five characters. Not too corny, I hope?
I was also surprised, though not so surprised in retrospect, to find that

In other remix-y news:
Hijack Me HP is THE BEST THING EVER. Well, you know. Here's the deal:
1.) NO story may be hijacked WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE AUTHOR. (there has been some confusion about this, not sure why, but there it is, it can't be easier to understand.)
2.) All stories MUST be presented the way previously mentioned, any posts that do not comply will be deleted - We refuse to be sued or bitched at because you people couldn't be arsed to add proper warnings or disclaimers!
3.) All finished fics must have been beta read before they are posted. To find a beta, or to become a beta or brit picker for the comm. please go here: Beta List
Hijacked stories may be:
1.) added to
2.) used as an installment for a new fic
3.) completely re-written by the Hijacker (so long as the original plot line stays intact)
4.) re-titled
5.) of any HP variety (no crossover's however, we want 'pureblooded' HP stories only)
6.) Hijacked by one Author (first come, first serve)
7.) Spiced up! (you may take a 'G' rated story and crank up the heat)
8.) Toned down! (you may think some scenes in the story you hijacked are gratuitous and do not contribute to the plot, cut them out, tone them down - It's up to you!)
I have, of course, subscribed to the feed and am waiting for a special and unique snowflake to fall into my greedy and corrupting hands. Mwa ha.

I made two Director of SHIELD posts to

No one's twisting my arm - I could technically post and run (and watch the wank roll in), but the whole point of posting to a comm, and not my own journal, is sharing the love. And that's hard to do when posters are calling each other out over a fictional political dustup that happened two years ago. Or questioning each other's morality, based on their taste in fiction.
Not to say that my behaviour is perfect in every which way. There was one post, a month or two back, where I responded to all the constitutionality-of-the-SHRA comments with "LOLZ!1!1111"until they stopped commenting. *g*
And not to say that this is exclusive to

I feel your pain. I'm sorry that the discussion about Maria Hill got so heated, but then again, you know what she's a lightning rod character and that it's safe to say that she engenders a whole lot of hate in comics fandom. It's also safe to say that S_D people aren't going to stop openly showing their dislike for her when people post about her, because, again, she's kind of the lightning rod for so much that's gone wrong with Marvel these last few years.
I know it's not pleasant when you post something that you like and suddenly a whole bunch of people comment in response with how much they hate it. Hell, you go out of your way to scan material and add content to the community, and suddenly there's a dogpile of character/writing hate.
I don't mind it when people drift off into panel-by-panel analysis of something that doesn't have to do with the OP's scans. That's comics fandom, period. I often learn from those discussions, so I like them.
The dislike of Civil War isn't going anywhere. People hated the story, hated the writing, and hated how it changed the MU. I don't know that there's anything that can be done about that, honestly.

Wow, that's quite a vote of confidence! The largest community I've modded had 300 members, which is far off from SD's 6000-odd members. (I do wonder how many are active posters and commenters, though).
I think that for modding to be be effective, the comm would need a handful of active mods, and possibly some partimers, who could tag in when the primary mods needed a break. At least three mods, who got together regularly to discuss policy and issues in the comm. Part of the problem for [Unknown site tag] has to have come from a lack of resources - who wants to read every post? And if people aren't reporting wank regularly, she won't find it. SD is not a one-person job imo.
That said, I notice that
I'm sorry that the discussion about Maria Hill got so heated
Oh no! It went much better than I was expecting. I'm honestly shocked at how civil it was. CW wasn't even mentioned until day two of commenting, no one's made Iron Fascist cracks, Maria's sexuality was not speculated on, or criticized, and only two or three people acted like utter Aholes. That's amazing for a Maria Hill related post. The Tony post was even more amazing, because it was largely filled with squee. I was all "Is this really SD!?!"
It's also safe to say that S_D people aren't going to stop openly showing their dislike for her when people post about her
*nod* That's only natural and it wouldn't be fair of me to ask people to keep all the negativity out of my posts. I do really dislike the way some of that dislike gets paired up with misogyny, as it does with so many female characters. And too, the way that liking a particular character comes to be an indictment of a posters' personal character.
I don't mind it when people drift off into panel-by-panel analysis of something that doesn't have to do with the OP's scans. That's comics fandom, period. I often learn from those discussions, so I like them.
I don't dislike them in principle, but I do dislike them when they come in the context of "Dude, your post isn't cool. You know what's cool? Spawn." Which I think is insulting, as a poster and a reader. And of course no one wants their precious fanthing to be discarded in favour of someone else's PFT. *g* It gets excruciating when say, every post that involves She-Hulk has to involve 60 comments about the Juggernaut. Especially when there's been 5 posts that week. When people can't stop having the exact same argument argument for years, it gets annoying.
Though maybe I should just click away. ;)

*nod* And that's fair. I didn't really like it much myself, but I am enjoying some of the fallout (other stuff, not so much). It's not that I want people to stop hating it, or stop voicing their hate, because that's totally their prerogative. It's just that I'm tired of seeing new discussions get derailed in favour of having the same CW discussion again. I say 'same' because it's usually the same group of posters, making arguments that we've all seen before. I remember one post where someone, swear to god, near c&ped her lengthy argument about the constitutionality of CW TEN TIMES, in TEN different threads. I was struck dumb by the determination that every person reading that post heard her voice.
I'd love a CW-free week, just to see what we could pull out of the issues without bringing up the old grievances.
So that's my CW beef. ;)

Yeah, I think that there is key - don't harsh other people's buzz, as a basic courtesy, at the very least. I don't even mind if people are hating in the same post that I'm squeeing, so long as they don't respond directly to my enjoyment with their hatred. Like their missionaries from the United Church of Awesome, and have to reveal to me that nowhere in the Awesome Bible, is there a passage about my favourite fan thing.

I really did! I know that there probably isn't quite that much personal character stuff and superhuman legal case stuff in her whole title, but I really, really enjoyed it. I also liked the art a lot. I may be forced to curse you as my collection of trades expands. :-P
