There is new Grindylowe. When I grow up, I want to be like Grindeylowe. *fawns* For those unfortunate souls not in the know, Death Eaters At The Malfoy's Estate is the funniest extended HP fanon parody ever. EVER.

You really must read it.

Woo-hoo! Thank you so much for the alert. *runs off to read*

It was entirely my pleasure.

The new chapter is good, and everyone *should* read it, but the tone is darkening. Not a laugh a minute anymore.

*nods* I loved it and on a certain level, I think that the looming DOOM only sharpens the humor.

Not spoilery
but
discussiony
so run
if you
haven't
read it
yet
(and WHY NOT???)

I love the way that the story is predestined, in a sense (I'm assuming she's going to wind up with canon events) yet there's not that feeling of predictability, either. Just compare the Star Wars movies - you know what has to happen in order for the universe to unfold properly, but there's not much suspense about how it will happen.

And here, I have no clue. Snape isn't just going to fall into line with el Dumbledore. And I don't really see any happy resolution occurring, because we all know how Snape ends up in the books - a miserable bastard.

Myra is dead, dead, dead, but I have confidence that Grindeylowe will handle it nicely. For all the over the top humor, she writes finely and carefully - I say with confidence that no one else in fandom is writing a longform parody with the same mix of absurdity and psychological depth. The problem with SW is that Lucas' characters and his story were always so typical that one couldn't doubt how it would unfold. Grindeylowe's, on the other hand, are always showing surprising edges.

Lucius' rage in this latest chapter, brings us right back into canon, and yet, she merges it perfectly with the dare I say it, satirical elements of the story. She doesn't make it seem possible, so much as the story resonates because of these moments.

DEATME is always surprising me. I love that about it.

Dobby's outfit killed me. That was pure Grindylowe.

The depth was a really noteable element of this chapter - much like my favourite one, in which Snape's puppet history is revealed, there are both tiny hints that are really intriguing, and actual explanations of behaviour that aren't cheesy or obvious. In lots of ways I haven't really read a compelling and intuitively plausible rationale for Snape turning into a spy and a resource for Dumbledore, and I think she might be on to something.

Just when Snape thinks that everything is going to get better ...

Oops, notable. Or noteworthy. And I meant to say that I've read explanations of joining and leaving the DE's that are completely viable, and ones that were more sensationalistic but still rang true in the context of the story, but that finding both plausibility and novelty/high interest level together is rare.
