Years ago I was writing a story where Tony finally decided to get some therapy. Unfortunately for Tony, the whole universe was a Skrull-induced hallucination. I backburned the story and then never got back to it, but he was supposed to be alerted to this fact by Wolverine jumping out the window of Avengers Tower, or at least, jumping out of the window was involved in the big revelatory scene. Anyway.

Now I want to harvest the core idea--Tony getting therapy--to write a movieverse story where Fury demands an evaluation (because of reasons) and rather than be analyzed by the SHIELD docs, Tony pushes for his semi-bro Charles Xavier (because of reasons). And then Charles somehow gets Tony to agree to actual therapy, and Tony is like, "But... how did that happen?" And then there's psychic therapy, and outings, and chess, and various X-Men side-eying the whole thing, and robot pets, and finally Tony upgrading Cerebro. idk, if I had more time.

Also: there should be fic where Tony creates an entire ark's worth of robot animals. Maybe I will write this fic.

It can't be that hard to get there! Emma Frost engineers it! I just find the idea of Tony in *psychic* therapy - preferably with Logan mocking him a lot - hilarious.

I know Tony and Emma hooked up back in the day (they would), but apart from that little blip, the X-men always seemed a universe away from the Marvel main verse, so it always knocks me for a loop when they brought into the main universe. I think the Ultimates verse actually made the X-men a bit more integrated into Marvel verse.

Erm.

But still, interesting stories are always welcome, and there's talk of an Avengers bang for next year. I'm tempted to dust off my old Civil War AU and post it because I can only respect a deadline.

If I was to do it, I would build off of the Illuminati or the Hellfire Club. Maybe develop a relationship centering on conferences and parties, but add some shadowy mover/shaker element that people are generally unaware of. Maybe they partnered on some social issue. There are lots of possibilities to make it happen.

That sounds awesome. :D Although Wolverine has been known to jump out of windows and trust to the healing factor. (Although the only time I recall him exiting via the windows of Avengers Tower is when Peter threw him.)

Somewhere I have a fic where Ult Tony says he wishes he wasn't the only one on the team who got therapy, and Steve is o_0 you get therapy? And Tony is duh, machinery operating outside intended tolerances needs regular tune-ups.

If it's movieverse, presumably you'll have to update Charles' history, or he'll be 20 years older that Tony? Perhaps they went to the same boarding school? Problems with Raven as she would be in regular close quarters, I guess. Perhaps she disguised as a boy and shared a room with Charles.

Actually, now I look this comment is one-third nitpicking, one-third 'let me talk about ME' and one-third 'here, let me commandeer your story'. I can only assure you that is my way of being supportive.

I think I'd keep Charles older, actually. I think cross generational bro adventures would be funnier, and allow some nostalgia and exasperation on Charles' part.

That sounds cool. Well, Xavier could have been a guest lecturer at a school or conference Tony attended, or they could have met at fundraisers, or lots of things, really. Or Xavier could have gone to Tony's school twenty years before and come to an alumnus day or something. Lots of ways! And as you say above, Tony attended the Hellfire Club in his younger days, so there's definitely ways the connection could have been formed.

Ult Tony is much more practical than 616 Tony, I think - there's indication he has some kind of mental issue, Jarvis referencing his black dog, but it doesn't seem to have ever concerned Fury. Probably depressive issues, given some of his behaviour.
