baby, where have you been all my life?
I was, for reasons that were obviously INSANE, resisting picking up Garth Ennis' Preacher. But today I broke down and picked up Gone to Texas - I've found my comic book soul mate. When Custer tells Sheriff Root to fuck himself? Oh, oh I'm still laughing. *wheeze* When I get my paycheck - Thursday has never seemed so far away - I'm going back for more.
Another bit of wondrous fannish news is that I also finally - finally - picked up Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, which I'm going to watch at least three times before I go to work tomorrow. I have such fond memories of this movie. When the mother's ear falls off and she eats it? Oh!
This, by the way, is me squeeing. *SQUEE*
Now for the obligatory post-ep House ramble. Actual analysis to follow. Later. Maybe.
House/Cameron is now irrefutably canon and this annoys me. [ETA: maybe not? As I said to
idiotparade, maybe I'm just paranoid?] Not because I'm rooting for House/Wilson, although I do enjoy that pairing, but because I hate this type of relationship. I have no interest in watching another bright, sensitive woman become involved with a bitter, scared, brilliant older man with intimacy issues. If this relationship gets off the ground we all know how it'll turn out - lawsuits, tears, emasculating cuteness, and finally a hateful by-rote breakup. How fucking cliche is this entire thing? Extremely fucking cliche, right down to the obvious attempt in this ep to make Cameron a more rounded, strong character who could be 'right' for him. Who could help him with his issues. See? She can get angry, push him - make him change his mind. True love, kids - true love can rehabilitate even the most psychologically fucked up men. Right until he freaks out and pushes her away.
And seriously - what does it say about her character that she had to be pushed this far before she stopped rolling over and doing tricks on command for House? She got snippy with him. And then offered to quit. Wow, between the two of these idiots we can look forward to maybe seasons of Clark/Lana romantic stupidity. Except crueler and with better lines. Oh joy. It's so damn boring. And passive-aggressive, un-brilliant, in-denial House is more of a tool than usual, and a distinctly un-entertaining one.
It also changes the Vogler-House dynamics in unpleasant (for me) ways. Cameron is a weak spot, an obvious one that Vogler is exploiting. And, and... gah! No words. I've obviously developed an anti-OTP.
On Chase - now that was interesting, not surprising, mind, because the buildup to this revelation was particularly anvilicious, but interesting. Yes, he's a despicable, craven boy with tons of issues but at least he's moving the plot in interesting ways. Of course, now that he's seen that Vogler isn't a sure thing, he's going to have to start sucking up to House again, possibly Cuddy, Wilson and the cafeteria servers as well.

If you like Preacher, you'd probably also like Hellblazer, the series that spawned the "but this is nothing like!" film Constantine. It is also fucking ace.
