Americans, did you know that your new President Elect is funny? Barack Obama at the Roast of Representative Rahm Emanuel. (Also, that Rahm's brother Ari might be the inspiration for Entourage's Ari Gold? *fangirls*)

Bush vs. Zombies. The sitting president wants to up defense spending for protection against zombies. "Is there any scientific evidence of an actual, biological difference between these zombies and slow-moving tourists?"

Dexter 3.8 "The Damage A Man Can Do": I liked this episode. We got some solid character-building moments from Miguel, Deb, Anton, and Dexter, some deepening relationships and the plot moved forward in a big way. This season has been somewhat slow moving, so it's nice that we finally have a credible lead on the Skinner.

My standout moment, believe it or not, was the Deb/Anton kiss. Well played, Jennifer Carpenter. Well played. Literally. I loved the way she didn't close her eyes until she was already kissing Anton back. So very Deb. Actually, overall this was a great Deb episode. Yuki's knockout punch to Deb's conscience (we know how she feels about her brother cops), was great. Exactly what was needed to drive a wedge between her and Quinn. And oh how I want that wedge.

The big reveal that Camilla knows Brian and Dexter were brothers was also cool. As was Dexter's little revelation about the quality of mercy. It was nicely balanced with his list-making issues, and his continuing explorations into the meaning of life friendship.

Still, I was more interested in Miguel's mini-meltdown (he's sure to screw over Dex), and the fantastic chemistry between Ellen and Maria. Femslash anyone? Rawr.

True Blood 1.10 "I Don't Wanna Know": I also liked this episode. I'm honestly happy that Sam's secret is out, with Sookie at least. I'm looking forward to the inevitable blowup with Tara over this, because it is sure to be messy. There's no way that Tara is going to just let his a) dishonesty, and b) non-human-ness slide. Not without a fight, at least. The storyline with her mother shows that she can get over even the most deeply felt antipathies, if she feels a strong enough connection with you. I'm not sure that she and Sam are that close yet, but as with her mother, it may be a case of his being "all she's got". On the other hand, she could reject him entirely.

Besides the Tara/Sam, I'm also hooked on the Jason/Amy mess, and was happy to see more of them. Eddie's fate was predictable but... really damn sad, actually. I loved the moments last ep, where he and Jason bonded over their wounded masculinity. Eddie's fathering of Jason brought out a lot in the character. I hadn't considered the angle that his hypermasculine displays might be a form of (moronic) overcompensation for his lack of a father figure. It's possible you could even look at his inviting pedo!uncle in this light, as well. Searching for a father in whatever family he has left?

I just have to say - Lizzie Caplan is doing a great job with Amy. Believably psycho, and then some. "I'm an organic vegan and my carbon footprint is miniscule." Whilst torturing Eddie. Nice. I can't wait to see what will happen with these two.

Sookie and Bill? Well. I'm seeing a lot of people claiming that Sookie (in the books) is too hard on Bill. I don't know what's going to happen in the show, but I don't think I'm going out on a limb, in saying that their relationship is in serious trouble. I could understand Sookie rejecting him at this point, and frankly, I would support it. He's killed an innocent girl, and turned her into a vampire against her will. Even under duress that's unacceptable.

Sookie and Sam? Eesh. She... had a right to be pissed. He shouldn't have tried to initiate a relationship with her, without telling her. But I hardly think this will be a deal-breaker. Sookie's already proven herself to be open-minded (with Bill) and forgiving (with Jason, at least partially).

But more important than the romantic prospects of the characters, does this mean we get shifted!Sam kicking ass? Come on, you know you want it as much as I do.

I thought Sookie in the books actually wasn't hard enough on Bill. The only thing good about their relationship in the books was the sex. Bill was not a very good boyfriend, and not just in the 'he's a emotionally stunted guy and also an inhuman vampire' sort of way, but also in a cheating and betrayal sort of way.

I'm seeing a lot of sympathy for Bill on the True Blood comms. I haven't read the books yet, but even on the show, there are hints of badness, and in this latest ep, real badness. I certainly couldn't accept a boyfriend who killed innocent people, in addition to pedo uncles (also not ok).
