Remember when this was banned from daytime play? Oh you pearl-clutching media conglomerates, you.

(There's an ad at the start of this video, but it had the best quality. C'est la).

Poor Onra! But this is decent mix. A little weird in spots, but I think if you weren't especially familiar with the original tracks it miiiiiight sound right.

But now for some Onra on his own: Read more... )

Ah HELL YEAH, this is an insta!rec. This vid is freaking awesome. The song is Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums, by A Perfect Circle, and the vidder is TikiTyler9.

I needed some downtime and this served perfectly. It's got tight editing, great scene choices and lots of blood, literally. go.back.to.sleep is rife with violent and disturbing imagery, so proceed with caution. It's sort of a... distillation of the violent elements of the show - none of the humour, and all of the horror.

I have so much hatred for Pitbull, you have no idea. This is his remix of Move Shake Drop (DJ Laz and Flo Rida), and the video is another stripperific sleazefest that samples the much awesomer Benny Benassi's Satisfaction. This kind of hip hop pains me. VAGINA DOLLARS VAGINA. Read more... )

Pitbull btw is the genius who brought us this piece of trash. Funny thing - first time I saw I Know You Want Me, I sincerely thought it was a parody. That's how utterly second rate and classless it is.

Anyway, I ended up watching that piece of irredeemable shit because I was looking for clips from How She Move. This movie is like mental comfort food to me. When I was growing up, about the only kind of dancing anyone did was stepping and breaking, breaking and stepping. So this takes me back. Also, the film secretly takes place in Toronto, although most references to the city were taken out at the request of the distributor, so it would play better with an American audience. For reference: T-Dot=Toronto, Scarbra=Scarborough (a west-end neighborhood), Richmon=Richmond Hill (a Nice Northern neighborhood), and the 46 bus goes from Kipling Station (on Bloor-Danforth) to Steeles Avenue East, which puts the movie somewhere in the (north) east end.

This is the final dance sequence from the movie and it's awesomesauce:

WAT.

If not Vader, then perhaps John Barrowman is the cure for writer's block? Have a John Barrowan cover of Bryan Adams' Heaven. LOVE this ridiculous video to death, btw. Canada's graveliest heart throb serenading a concert hall full of tv screens? Epic lolarity.

Why writer's block?

I've managed to produce > 17,000 words of notes and commentary on Laclau and Ranciere. Did I mention this paper only needs to be 10 pages? You know when you're beyond ready to write a paper, but you can't seem to just sit the fuck down and write it? Yeah, that's me. I've probably overthought this thing. Arg!

[livejournal.com profile] triestine posted this video, and I've now gone and dled Justice's †. I want to stress that this is a Watch With Your Eyes Fully Open kind of video, and link to the same context she provided.

Here's their MySpace if you want to check them out. I'm not in an uploading kind of mood.

28 Days Later comic
Initial launch story will be firmly based in 28 DAYS LATER continuity with the first arc focusing on Selena. Bridging the gap between 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER, a few key questions will be answered along the way: what happened to Selena after 28 DAYS LATER? How did Selena happen upon the machete she wields in 28 DAYS LATER?

So, Supernatural fandom. What's up with all the horrifyingly OOC fanmixes? Are you aware that Dean is nearing 30, with Sam close behind him, and they spend their life on the road, out of touch with the finer details of popular teen culture? And for those reasons, in addition to taste, (Dean particularly, though Sam too, if only to avoid the inevitable mockery) would never, ever be caught dead listening to a My Chemical Romance/Iron & Wine /Arcade Fire mixtape? No, really. Really, really. STOP. As [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon pointed out, SPN has one of the best soundtracks known to man. Learn from it. As Dean dispenses his manly tears, so too employ your emo and your indie: sparingly, and for deliciously pretty dramatic effect.

But fanmixes. It brings up an interesting question: is it better to select songs that could be part of the canon (the official soundtrack, listened to by the characters), or songs that describe your feelings about the character? I like both kinds of mix, but I wish mixers were more committed to commentary, so I could figure out what they were going for. Liner notes people!

Btw, bless you Wikipedia, for listing this important information about Dean Winchester:

Specialty
Combat
Hunting
Driving
Torturing

Dean Winchester: for all your driving and torturing needs.

This video by Fever Ray is really quite arresting. The song is a moody, atmospheric kind of thing and lovely, but the video is layered with interesting images. I'd love to read someone's unpacking of what's going on there.

NBS Nightly News with Ted Philips, March 11th 1970 is a viral marketing vid for The Watchmen. It's a retrospective on ten years of Dr. Manhattan, which is a brilliant idea and true to the spirit of the book - Dr. Manhattan is a total game-changer, far more so than the bomb was in our world; a fusion of nuclear power and the existence Superman.

I spent a couple of hours today, catching up on my blog reading list, and Art MOCO introduced me to Joey Remmers whose work is damn cool. I love the shadows on the water in this one.

Also Monaux who's doing a lot of tattoo inspired work that I'd be tempted to at least wear on a tee, if not my skin. ETA: Love the Tarantino!

Banlieue 13: Ultimatum

What's that? A sequel to the bestest free-running-cops-and-robbers-action-movie evar? Ok, the only free-running-cops-and-robbers-action-movie (that I know of), but the point stands. A sequel to Banlieue 13 coming out in February? The gods have been kind.

Next up, a new, and hopefully regular feature here at [livejournal.com profile] schmevil, Marry F*ck, or Kill. A quick rundown for the unfamiliar: Marry, F*ck, or Kill is a game, usually involving large consumptions of sugary substances (when teenlets are playing), or alcohol (if aged degenerates are playing). Three characters, people, animals, vegetables or minerals are given, and you must choose one to marry, one to f*ck and one to kill. No fence sitting. No halfsies. Ya gotta choose. So for our inaugural game:

The Trio from Harry Potter: Marry, F*ck or Kill

I meant to post this when it first hit YouTube, but we all know how crap I am at updating. Still, for those of you who haven't caught it yet, Bakhtawar Bhuto's tribute to her mother.

That cold I fought off? I didn't fight it off. I now have the voice of a pubescent seal. Tomorrow is my day off, and I'll be wallowing in sickitude; burrowing into foot-deep layers of blankets and mainlining lemon tea. Lots of interesting things happened today, but for now, I'll confine myself to three nifty things I found online.

But first, I have a request. There are some awesome icon-makers on my flist. Would any of you be willing to make me a custom icon, for to-be-revealed purposes?

Nifty stuff:

1. Check out this mini-doc on the narrative structure of comic books via [livejournal.com profile] otw_news.

2.

Drawn & Quarterly has a pdf preview of Lynda Barry's multimedia comic "What Is it?" about getting creative. Their blurb:

What It Is demonstrates a tried-and-true creative method that is playful, powerful, and accessible to anyone with an inquisitive wish to write or remember. Bursting with full-color drawings, comics, and collages, autobiographical sections and gentle creative guidance, each page is an invigorating example of exactly what it is: "The ordinary is extraordinary." Lynda Barry explores the depths of the inner and outer realms of creation and imagination, where play can be serious, monsters have purpose, and not knowing is an answer unto itself.

How do objects summon memories? What do real images feel like? These types of questions permeate the pages of What It Is, with words attracting pictures and conjuring places through a pen that first and foremost keeps on moving. Her insight and sincerity will tackle the most persistent of inhibitions, calling back every kid who quit drawing to again feel alive at the experiential level.

3.

And finally, check out the beautiful illustration work of Kate Slater.

Left For Dead has given me a new band: Elbow - Grounds for Divorce. Great song. Great looking game. I might be able to run it on my iMac...

In other zombie news, who watched Dead Set? For those out of the know, it's a Zombiepocalpse mini series, set in the Big Brother House. Boyle/Snyder running zombies fused with all the media commentary, tragedy and satire of Romero. Simon Pegg likes it (you trust Simon Pegg, don't you?) though he wants to remind you, that zombies don't run! If you're a Brit, all the eps are available on E4. Otherwise, it's up on a variety of streaming sites, and since we're only talking about five episodes, you have no excuse. Do you?

Americans, did you know that your new President Elect is funny? Barack Obama at the Roast of Representative Rahm Emanuel. (Also, that Rahm's brother Ari might be the inspiration for Entourage's Ari Gold? *fangirls*)

Bush vs. Zombies. The sitting president wants to up defense spending for protection against zombies. "Is there any scientific evidence of an actual, biological difference between these zombies and slow-moving tourists?"

Dexter 3.8 "The Damage A Man Can Do": I liked this episode. spoilers )

True Blood 1.10 "I Don't Wanna Know": I also liked this episode. more spoilers )
