So, Supernatural fandom. What's up with all the horrifyingly OOC fanmixes? Are you aware that Dean is nearing 30, with Sam close behind him, and they spend their life on the road, out of touch with the finer details of popular teen culture? And for those reasons, in addition to taste, (Dean particularly, though Sam too, if only to avoid the inevitable mockery) would never, ever be caught dead listening to a My Chemical Romance/Iron & Wine /Arcade Fire mixtape? No, really. Really, really. STOP. As elspethdixon pointed out, SPN has one of the best soundtracks known to man. Learn from it. As Dean dispenses his manly tears, so too employ your emo and your indie: sparingly, and for deliciously pretty dramatic effect.

But fanmixes. It brings up an interesting question: is it better to select songs that could be part of the canon (the official soundtrack, listened to by the characters), or songs that describe your feelings about the character? I like both kinds of mix, but I wish mixers were more committed to commentary, so I could figure out what they were going for. Liner notes people!

I have only ever done mixes for specific fics, but I always choose them based on how the lyrics are relevant to the story, rather than whether or not the character(s) would listen to them.

LOL! Well, there's the story of the show/the characterisation it could be commenting on, too, idk. Probably most fan mixes are like most fanfic: bad. Like all those people writing horribly OOC fic, but who are so earnest in their belief that this is exactly what the characters are like.

How about a compromise: a fanmix with songs not from the soundtrack, BUT from a certain era/period that the characters could conceivably (realistically speaking of course) have listened to back when they weren't "wandering the Earth" like Cain in Kung Fu.

I agree about the fanmixes. Give me justification for choices that seem OOC darnit! Although, there was a bluesy fanmix posted the other day that seemed appropriate. At least they had Crossroad Blues!

I love how they do angels in this show. I SO BADLY want to see an arch angel but at the same time I love how they're just hinted at and are so powerful just having one nearby shakes the earth.

Castiel was filled to the brim with awesome this episode! I am so excited to have him come on the show as a regular. I wonder how they'll work that? I am placing money on the table he falls from grace! Or at least gets kicked out of the garrison but doesn't lose his angelic presence for realz because he is really doing God's work outside of the corruption of the hierarchy.

New!Lillith was very hawt and I loved that she wanted more than a kiss to seal the deal. XD

I think Sam is very much aware his choices are going to be heavy and important. I just hope he trusts in love and Dean more than he will his thought processes.

I don't want Castiel to fall. I like your second scenario there. I really want this to play out with there being corruption in heaven, possibly involving Zacariah (who's a little sketch), and Castiel, with Anna's support, being the one to root it out.

Ok, so Lucifer is going to rise either at the end of this season, or some time in the next. The season finale is supposed to feature the brothers 'battling' each other. Dun, dun, dun.

The speculation is that Lucifer's rising involves Lilith's death at Sam's hands.

A small part of my brain wondered at the obvious handing off of Dean's necklace when he met up with Sam again.

And I heard a theory about the first seal, Dean, having Lucifer inside him. References in the show to Lucifer being in his 'rotting prison' and such?
