Your thoughts on yaoi

Although I read (and sometimes write) slash, I've never really considered slash to be an important part of my fannish identity. I'm as likely to fall for a het ship, or femslash ship, as a slash ship, and it's even more likely for me to not ship much of anything at all. And although I have many friends in the slash community, I don't consider it to be my fannish home base.

So what makes a slasher? Are you a slasher? Why do you consider yourself to be (or not to be) a slasher?

I've always seen 'slash' and shipped characters (against canon). I just didn't know the term for it. Yes, I was totally weird kid.:)

I discovered gen and het fic first (x-men to be specific and I wasn't actually searching fic but fanart) but even before I read any slash I thought that there should be some. It made sense to me 'cause what else fanfic is but the stuff that they can't show you or won't dare to do.
After that it kinda snowballed.:)

(Slowly, tho, since at the time there was very little fanfic in general and very small part of it was slash. Lot of the fic was in fanzines or other ways out of reach. Every time I want to complain about lj and flocking and how people don't archive their stuff I think about how it was then and feel immensely better.:)

Ps. Nowadays I do search after seeing something I like. Even though I don't need to read to just enjoy the idea. Sometimes it's better that way.
