I have written fic!

And now I'm going to talk about it, because I'm a narcissist like that. I've actually written a couple of stories, but they're locked up in anon exchanges until the end of the month. I've got two other fest fics coming due (Own Fic Fest, SPN Summer Gen), and things are happening. This is my first story for Cliche Bingo, but since finishing this one, I've started two more. I know, I know. I'm way behind on this. *g*

A Hell For Angels
Supernatural | Castiel, Ruby | 1,455
The end of days.

Written for the [community profile] cliche_bingo prompt: "It's the end of the world as we know it - Apocafic." Thanks for the read through, Tammy. :)

You guys know I love apocafic, right? Funnily enough, this is only my second time binning the world. My previous attempt had a crazy Lex Luthor collaborating with aliens (who he thought were angels), to destroy the world. (Don't ask - I'm rewriting it). This time, it really is angels setting up the end of days. A Hell For Angels looks at what might happen after the angels win the upcoming war with hell. They kick Lucifer's butt, root out the apostate angels, and then... what? What exactly does happen next, in a universe where god has gone silent, and is letting his angels get up to all sorts of tomfoolery? My answer is Castiel the time traveling angel.

The idea behind the story is this: what if the reason god has gone silent in SPN is because he is running an experiment? He decides that, hey, humans have done interesting things with free will, let's see what my superpowered servants will do with it. In SPN Angels can possess humans, enter their dreams and put them to sleep. They're strong, fast, telekinetic, sort of immortal, and they can travel through time. They are presumably made of some kind of ~magical energy~ and they live to serve their god. But however powerful they are, god is always more powerful. He is so much more powerful, that even his top minions don't fully understand god's plans, and how he puts them into effect. We know that prophecies are prophecies, but that there are loopholes, and we know that one little choice, can have world changing consequences.

Being given free will, and no more direction from god, would I think be utterly horrible, if you'd been enjoying an eternity of structure, moral clarity and the infinite bounty of god's love. Free will to do good or ill is the normal state of affairs for humans, but would be terrifying to the rank and file of heaven.

I've been watching the show with the assumption that Castiel is our Every Angel. Unlike Anna, he's never been especially tempted by earthly pleasures. Unlike Uriel and Zaccariah, he's utterly lacking in ambition. He spends a lot of time floundering, looking for something to, I guess, replace god. He finally settles on Dean, or at least, Dean's ideals. Instead of following god's commands, he'll henceforth be operating on his own recognizance, guided by Dean's hunter ethic: protect humanity, even at the cost of your own life. There's also the Winchester imperative: protect your loved ones, even at the cost of your own soul.

In A Hell For Angels, Castiel essentially goes FUCK THIS NOISE. He decides to stop playing wait and see with god, and just make of things what he will. And if you read the fic, you'll find out exactly what that entails. :p

Also hey, after [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie's post about fandom shame, and some related discussions, I've decided that I need a "high functioning geek" icon. y/y? ETA:
