Your thoughts on yaoi

Although I read (and sometimes write) slash, I've never really considered slash to be an important part of my fannish identity. I'm as likely to fall for a het ship, or femslash ship, as a slash ship, and it's even more likely for me to not ship much of anything at all. And although I have many friends in the slash community, I don't consider it to be my fannish home base.

So what makes a slasher? Are you a slasher? Why do you consider yourself to be (or not to be) a slasher?

I've written it all (gen, het, slash, femmeslash) and don't really consider myself one over another...my current OTP is slash though, and that's what has my fannish attention lately.

What's your current OTP? I'm between OTPs at the moment.

Nite Owl/Rorschach. (Currently battening down the hatches for when all hell breaks loose in March. >_> )

Oh you poor thing. It's going to be so bad. There's going to be hurt comfort, and hookerfic, and...

Rorschach MPREG.

Talk about gazing into the abyss. *enjoys the high goodfic ratio while she can*

Is there any good Dan/Laurie fic out there?

[identity profile] sandoz-iscariot.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"A Mirror of the Trackless Sky" (http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/72/amirror.html) is one.

It's a small fandom, and mostly slash-oriented right now.

SO GOOD. Thanks for the link.

See, that has the potential to at least be funny.

What *I'm* afraid of is the story where Rorschach and Nite Owl go to a gay bar and one of them has to save the other from an evil rapist gay guy. God, do I want to see that cliche die already.

I'm also afraid of the Mary Sues. Very, very afraid of the Mary Sues.

What about the inevitable cross-dressing-stripper fic, with young!Dan learning to pole dance?

[identity profile] quietprofanity.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I've never read cross-dressing stripper fanfics, although I've read my fair share of prostitute fanfics.

Young!Dan pole dancing ... eh ... sounds more like a Young!Adrian thing to do, IMO. He had to re-earn his millions of dollars SOME way, right?

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Prostitute fic very rarely works for me. Prostitute!Superman, Harry Potter and James Kirk are just not on, imho.

And you know he'd be incredibly good at it.

I actually read a prostitute!Peter Parker fanfic that was kind of fun ... and sad ... actually mostly sad. But it won me over in the end.

And you know he'd be incredibly good at it.

Totally. And it would only increase his appeal with people when he left that life behind. He'd be like the male Diablo Cody.

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Did he have his powers? It takes a lot for me to rationalized super-powered individuals turning to prostitution. That stripper!Emma Frost is canon just irks me to no end - why would she need to dance for men at all? She could have just talked people into giving her their wallets. *grumble*

Ha! I'd so read his bio.

[identity profile] quietprofanity.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
No, he didn't. It was a I-need-to-have-sex-with-men-to-take-care-of-Aunt-May deal (men in question being Cap and Iron Man).

That stripper!Emma thing sounds crappy. I can KIND OF deal with Catwoman being an ex-prostitute, given her horrible origin in general, but ... eh, I haven't actually read Year One yet and Frank Miller's Daredevil/Elektra stories made me angry enough.

I've read my fair share of prostitute fanfics.

Considering that Rorschach actually has a past connection to prostitution, I'm surprised I haven't seen a "Walter Kovacs is a young hustler saved from the streets by wealthy Richard Gere Dan Dreiberg" fic yet. I'm sure it's coming, though.
