Last post I complained about Dan Slott bringing his issues to his portrayal of Jen's sexuality, but otherwise, his run is pretty much awesome. For [livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills and [livejournal.com profile] tammylee: nine pages of She-Hulk hilarity.

And from the first issue of his run, one page for the Steve/Tony shippers.

my brain goes, "do you think tony bought him that shirt?"

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, because this way they match.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAH! Awesome!!
Those pages and the fight you posted brought back good She-Hulk memories. Almost as goofy as the Byrne stuff. XD

Here, have some more! I <3 She-Hulk so much. ;)

Sensational She-Hulk #60 (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/5091621.html): Get Away From Them, You Roach!
She-Hulk #25 (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/4903804.html): Camping in the MU
She-Hulk (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/4811457.html): Jen Walters vs the Deadliest Breakfast Cereal of Them All
She-Hulk (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/4081719.html): Covers
She-Hulk (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/5344780.html): The Cutest Wrecking Crew of Them All
She-Hulk (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/5345713.html): She-Hulk vs. the Miniaturized Minions of Evil
She-Hulk #28 (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/5356000.html"): in prison again

Peter David, the new writer as of like five issues ago, is taking the book in a more serious direction, which I supposed makes sense, considering all she's been through lately.

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* Those 9 pages were way too much fun! :-) :-) Miniature villains! They shouldn't be cute, but they are. Awwww.

Is it just me, or do Steve and Tony look exactly like stereotypical college students in that page? Steve is The Jock and Tony is The Jock's Preppy Friend. (I wrote "Pretty" friend, initially. Heh. That, too...) Not that I mind this, of course. *grins* *adores them being wallflowers together*

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I posted more (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/5345713.html) at [livejournal.com profile] kali921's request. This is the big fight scene, where Jen, Hank and Awesome Andy throwdown with the minions. You must love She-Hulk. *swings shint watch in front of your eyes*

And yeah, they really do! I'm now in love with rolled-up-shirtsleeves!Tony, and talk-top!Steve. It's such an OC-ish interlude - they're the popular kids who don't want to be popular, who just want to enjoy quiet time with their boyfriend best friend.

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That fight was way too much fun. *grins* But as awesome as the whole fight scene was, my favorite part was Awesome Andy's little review of his history when deciding who to side with. Go positive reinforcement! *grins*

talk-top!Steve

I can't help it, this typo made me thinking of Steve being really aggressive in bed and talking dirty to Tony. Who's brain is totally fried (in a good way!) by this. *g*

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Andy is indeed awesome. I'll have to post the pages where he's heading off to work, and greeting everyone in the neighborhood with his little chalkboard. Attack of the cute!

YOU WANT TO WRITE THIS. *swings shiny pocket watch back and forth*

I like dirty talk. Especially when it comes from the good boys

Okay, just the thought of that is so cute! And what does it say about me that this is what makes me think that okay, maybe I'll give it a shot? *g*

Where's a good place to start reading? (Preferably pre-Civil War...) Also, do you know where I can get a hold of issues?

(You know you're evil, right? *g*)

YOU WANT TO WRITE THIS. *swings shiny pocket watch back and forth*

*laughs* It would be desperately hot. I am also a big fan of dirty talk. I have wondered if people would think it out of character for Steve to do it without being a bit embarrassed, but if I did it well enough, they might not care. *g*

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
She-Hulk is easy, because despite all the crack, her stories are pretty linear and retcon-less. There are three possible starting points.

Sensational She-Hulk #1 (David Byrne - this is the 80s book)
She-Hulk #1 (Dan Slott - the new book, and the one I've posted scans from)
She-Hulk #25 (Peter David - the new angsty Shulkie)

Slott's run starts pre-CW and gets thoroughly established before the crossover confusion sets in.

All of Slott's run has been collected in trades, and I believe some of Byrne's as well. David's run is too new to have yet been collected. My LCS usually has the trades in stock, but I haven't seen a lot of back issues. The trades are available through Amazon too, and the single issues should be on Mile High comics.
Are you in the US?

You know you're evil, right?

Schmevil. ;)

Not at all, because you see, Tony never talks dirty to Steve, because Steve is such a good guy, such a nice guy. He doesn't want to freak him out, doesn't want to do anything to endanger this amazing gift he's been given. He never even imagined that he would get to be with Steve, and now that he is, he's going to do it right. He's going to be careful, and give Steve what he wants, what he needs.

But Steve, well, sometimes when he's with Tony he doesn't want to be a Nice Guy. Sometimes when he's with Tony he doesn't feel nice at all, he just feels, so much, like he's lost some crucial piece of self-control and he doesn't miss it at all. Like it's ok to be out of control, to want and to have, because Tony can take it, can take anything Steve wants, give anything he needs. He's, god, so open - Steve knows that he's safe with Tony, but some of things he does, make him feel... dirty. Not like a kid doing something he knows he shouldn't. Like he's discovered this secret about his body - that he could turn off his higher brain functions and just be in his flesh, just live for that moment where even nerves he didn't know existed are screaming for something, more, now. Where there's no part of him that's off limits, no part of him that doesn't need to be touched. And it's... dirty, yes, but it's just good. Perfect.

And he wants Tony, who's so careful, sometimes too careful, to feel it too. Steve wants to see him out of control, and not careful at all.

Or something. ;)

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Based on your comments, I think I probably want to start with Dan Slott's run, although it looks like it runs into Civil War, so I might wince through that part. I've run a couple of searches for it (I don't want to buy it until I've had a full issue kind of taste), and the numbering system is frustrating me. Most of the downloads don't include the "sensational" bit, but most of them are also clearly not Dan Slott. Also, I suck at searching for downloads. *g* I have been known to search for days for something that other folks find in two minutes.

All of Slott's run has been collected in trades

Next time I have a chance to go to the comic shop I shall have to flip through them. :-) Assuming they're there. They should be, at Golden Age at least.

Are you in the US?

Nope. Canadian. :-) Vancouver, B.C., specifically.

Schmevil. ;)

D'oh! I should have known. :-P

[snips way too much of this awesome description]

EVIL! *grins* That's perfect. And hot. And the concept is so going to get used sometime in the future, though I couldn't say exactly when. :-)

...I so need a Steve-only icon. I shall have to go and scour icon posts for one I can live with. I'm just terribly picky about my icons most of the time, and I can't find one of him that I really like.

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a great dead!Steve icon base, though I'm not sure if that would be something you're interested in. ;)

Image

Let me take a look. I downloaded ALL of Sensational She-Hulk and Dan Slott's run, in addition to buying Slott's, so I know it's out there. If worse comes to worse, I can upload some issues to a share site. And hey, that way I can pimp the series out to even more people. Mwa ha!

Nope. Canadian. :-) Vancouver, B.C., specifically.

Me too! Except Toronto, specifically. *g* Anyway, Amazon.ca and Indigo quite often have good package deals on trades, both through the store and the buy-and-sell section.

Hmm. Maybe I should do a ficlet. :)

Eeexcellent.

Heh. No, I'm looking for more bright and shiny icons. I really wish I could find an icon of either Steve or Tony laughing, too.

If worse comes to worse, I can upload some issues to a share site. And hey, that way I can pimp the series out to even more people. Mwa ha!

I certainly wouldn't object, even if I have given in and bought one of the trades. *g*

I was born in Toronto! But I've lived in Vancouver twice as long, so I feel more like a Vancouverite at this point.

Amazon.ca and Indigo quite often have good package deals on trades, both through the store and the buy-and-sell section.

I'm so impatient about things that I tend to prefer going to the store and getting it in my hands RIGHT NOW, even if it costs a bit more. *g* I only really order online if I can't find it in store.

Hmm. Maybe I should do a ficlet. :)

I will get back to you on the She-Hulk dls later in the week.

Yeah, I appear to be freeing the bunny from the lump of clay in which it was trapped. Fingers crossed I can pull off a PWP. ;)

No rush and no pressure. :-) Especially since I suspect I will be buying Dan Slott's second trade. *wry* Even if it does start into Civil War era stuff.

:-) :-) :-) *thinks encouraging creative and porny thoughts for you and your muse*

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally forgot about the She-Hulk thing. Did you buy the second trade?

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I did! And I liked it a lot, too. But I decided to stop there. I'm told that Dan Slott did some bad things to Tony during the Civil War and I just...don't want to get anywhere near there. Not for a while, if ever. The third trade might still be safe, but I know that the fourth isn't and I don't want to take chances.

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. It's good right up until Tony injects her with power-suppressing nanites and then leaves her by the side of the road. In ripped clothes. Shades of sexual violence? No! I can accept everything else that Tony did during Civil War, as being organic, if nasty outgrowths of his character, but that's the sticking point for me.

I'm still not over it. It's just so... disgusting. I mean, I can't believe it even got past editorial, considering Tony was never supposed to be an outright villain. If that's not outright villainous behavior, I don't know what is.

It also makes me sad because Tony/Jen is a cute relationship. They respected each other's brilliance and competence. They flirted, and even had a one-night stand without angst or self-recrimination. It was nice. Light. Friendly. And then WHAM - borderline date rape implications.

I sincerely hope that PAD can handwave the whole thing somehow, in a way that allows me to let go of it.

Anyway, it's only a few issues that you need to avoid. Even though Jen's been majorly pissed at Tony since CW, I've found it readable from the pov of a Tony fan. But jeeze, it's hard when your fan-things are fighting. ;)

Yeah, I've read other posts of yours on this subject. :-( Most of Civil War's treatment of Tony I can rationalize, one way or another, but there are a couple things like this that are just so wildly OOC that it breaks my brain. And makes me unhappy, because other fans seize upon them and then try to bash me over the head with how awful my favorite character is.

If that's not outright villainous behavior, I don't know what is.

Exactly. *sighs* And while I'm (mostly) willing to ignore it as a "writers on crack" moment, the fact that it gives the Tony haters ammunition drives me crazy.

It also makes me sad because Tony/Jen is a cute relationship.

I never saw much of this, even in Avengers, but I can see how they would be fun together. Tony would appreciate a smart, powerful, playful woman. *g*

I sincerely hope that PAD can handwave the whole thing somehow, in a way that allows me to let go of it.

He seems willing to do it, from what I've heard. Now if only he's given some sort of opportunity.

But jeeze, it's hard when your fan-things are fighting. ;)

*laughs* So true. It's a whole new kind of awkwardness for me. *g*

I hope that's a very durable speaker ^_^.

Why is Steve covered in random bandages? (If it were Tony, I wouldn't even ask, given his track record, but Steve is a little more durable).

Also, Steve's tank top is very gay. I'd be tempted to agree that Tony bought it for him, but since we're talking about a man who wears roll-neck sweaters and designed the Nomad costume...

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
They just fought the Wrecking Crew and it got nasty. Steve was pretty banged up.

I find it hilarious that Tony is supposed to have a good sense of style. Because that's utterly contrary to what the artists usually give us. *g*

Also, Steve's tank top is very gay.

Totally agree.

sorry i couldn't resist...

That icon will never stop being funny.

See, now I have to make more Shulkie posts. I'm going to pimp relentlessly until I've suckered you all into reading. Mua ha ha!
