scans_daily suspended

For all members of scans_daily: the community has been suspended for posting copyrighted material without the permission of copyright holders, which is against LiveJournal's ToS. Before you ask:

1) At this time we don't know who made the complaint. But guys, we don't want this to turn into a witch hunt.

2) No, we don't have backups, but we're looking into recovering our entries. ETA: pandanoai made a backup early this month. You'll need this to view it. acroamatica has it mirrored here.

3) rabican set up a backup comm on insanejournal some time ago. If you're in dire need of scans, go here for now. ETA: A while ago, sir_razorback set up a message board for the comm here. comics_scans is another scan comm on eljay. Their rules and culture are a bit different from ours. If you join, be sure to read the userinfo before posting. stubbleupdate has set up noscans_daily. Please join, so we can keep our community together.

4) No, this will not be the end of us. Vive les scans!

5) ETA: Since people are asking about eljay's stance on fair use, from the TOS:

LiveJournal and its designates shall have the right, but not the obligation, to remove any content that violates the TOS or is otherwise objectionable, or that infringes or is alleged to infringe intellectual property rights. You agree that you must evaluate, and bear all risks associated with, the use of any content, including any reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of such content. Peter David has the legal and ethical right (in fact, as the law is written, the responsibility) to protect his copyright. Calling him names is inappropriate.

He has no idea how the internet works, does he? Uh, if people want to read the issue, they can download it from one of the million BitTorrent trackers or other download services out there, most of which do NOT fall under U.S. copyright law. One link more or less wouldn't have made any difference in book sales. Hell, if he'd just contacted the mods quietly and said, "hey, free publicity, now please take it down and don't let someone post a whole issue again," he might have come out of this looking good. As it is, he's cost himself readers and money.

X-Factor trades were on my "to buy when I can spare the money" list, and s_d was what initially interested me in them. Now...I'm not going to buy them, or anything else of his that ever sees print, just out of principle. Let's all boycott him, shall we?

Do you know what the massive irony of this is? I was watching the LEGALLY OBTAINED Wolverine and the X-Men TV movie with my little brother, and he expressed interest in comic book deaths, and my FIRST THOUGHT WAS "omg he's finally old enough for me to buy him X-Factor! I should point him over to S_D to make sure he'll be interested, but then: to the store!"

S_D is a huge revenue draw for him! Is he a crazy person?
