I've picked up a Y: The Last Man prompt from [community profile] notgreenorblue. It's been an age since I finished and posted a fic, so we'll see how this goes--if I get a handle on it, I might pick up another one. Maybe Misty/Collen. <3 I think I want to write about how the clones affect society long term. And I want particularly to write about 355's legacy. So I'm kind of turning it over, thinking about structure and what the damn story is. Somehow Y has become one of my eternal fandoms, like Star Trek and Buffy. I'll always come back to you baby.

Speaking of Buffy--my god, season eight. MY GOD. HOW AWFUL CAN YOU GET? Did any of you guys stick with it? I ship Buffy/Angel but this was exactly the opposite of what I hoped for. DDD:

Also, I'm fiddling around with a short Buffy fic, so if anyone would like to chat about that with me...

Matt, King and I got to talking about this on Twitter, and I promised I'd open up a venue for more in depth conversation. The issue at hand:

Are the Amazons the only group to self-identify as feminist? It's been a year since my last read through, so I can't remember if another character uses the term.

The Amazons being violent extremists, what implications does that have? And what about the obvious feminist themes, characters, and premise? How does this all fit together?

Whenever I sit down to write these things, I get interrupted by work. Grr, life. Anyway! I offered ficlets of ~500 words, but the first one ran a leeetle bit long. I'm now hard at work on the second one. Hopefully it won't be quite so, er, over budget.

Title: Only Hold Her
Fandom: Y: The Last Man
Summary: 355 teaches Yorick to knit.
Characters: 355/Yorick
Word Count: 4669
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] goobalicious as part of Help Haiti
schmevil: (jean)
My Help_Haiti ficlets are first on the list. They keep getting interrupted by work. Grr.

Y: The Last Man, Yorick/355 (If they got together fantasy).
Harry Potter, Snape (I might do Snape in Gotham for this).
Avengers, Steve/Tony (Tony takes Steve to a farm. There's a pony).
Avengers, Jan/Hank, Wanda/Simon (Possssibly a double date. Or an evil quiz show. Maybe both).

Then there are my holiday stories. One of which needs a scene and some editing. The other still needs to be written.

Avengers, Steve/Tony (Stephanie Rogers is pulled out of the ice and has to adjust to the brave new world. This is like... more complicated than it sounds because I have to remake the MU to adjust for a female Captain America in WW2. Think about it).

Kill Bill, Beatrix, BB/Nicki Green (Nicki goes looking for revenge. I think I'm going to do this in the style of the movie, with pics, footnotes, asides and musical interludes).

And my other stuff. There's lots of it. I'm going to give you the ones that are at the top of my priority list.

Avengers, Clint/Bobbi, Steve/Tony, Rhodey (Clint finds out that Steve and Tony are maybe-dating. First he freaks out, then he tries to enlist Rhodey to help things along). For Scotty.

Supernatural, Dean, Sam, Bobby and Castiel (During the final battle Castiel died. Now he's back as a human. Bobby adopts him, havoc ensues).

Supernatural, Castiel and Dean (Castiel is a fallen angel guarding the city of Dis. He pulls Dean out of hell, but not for altruistic reasons).

Supernatural, my SPN Femslash assignment, the details of which I can't reveal.

Harry Potter, Lily/James, baby Harry (The Potters face isolation, cabin fever, and a baby, in the house in Godric's Hollow).

Y: The Last Man

I was on a years long break from comics, when I read a review of this and several other comic books For Grown Ups. Y: the Last Man (and Preacher) are entirely responsible for my getting back into comics, and now I mod a comics community, a comics-fanworks recing community, and I'm trying to write my own! I love comics, and I've loved them since I was a kid, but for a while there I was burned out. Y: the Last Man both reminded me of all the things I adored about funny books, and reminded me of their great potential - to be moving, ambitious, hilarious, tragic. ExpandRead more... )

C J Cherryh - Fortress series

Cherryh is one of my favourite SF/F writers, and Fortress is, I think, one of her tighter universes. Fortress is what happens when you apply SF style world building to a fantasy series: you get intimate details of political alliances, the economics of trade, warfare and the supernatural. Because it's Cherryh, there's layer after layer of character development, personal conflicts, cultural mixups, and so very much detail. She's created a system of the supernatural, differentiating between magic, wizardry and sorcery, laying out the possibilities and practices of each, but managed to retain a sense of the numinous. Not to mention, the characters. <3 ExpandRead more... )

Caroline Stevermer - College of Magics series

Ok, Faris Nallaneen? Wins at life as far as I'm concerned. As does Stevermer, who built such a lovely fantasy world in this series. Intrigue on trains! Magical hats! Highway men! Rides in early limos! Shopping in Paris! It's all so much fun, made even more fun by how badly it chafes Faris. A College of Magic is a great coming of age tale, with political finagling, and and understated love story thrown in as bonuses. It's filled to the brim with deep and abiding friendships, complicated family dynamics, and conflicting loyalties. And it's funny. ExpandRead more... )

True Blood

I was not blown away by the first episode, but by the third, I was hooked. I have so much love for this show and all its insanity, sexiness, twists, turns and over-heated drama. What I like best about True Blood, is how it balances the relentless advance of the (insane) plot, with screwball hilarity, and small moments of humanity. It's like every once in a while the show takes a breath, gets serious, and real, and sometimes devastating, and then before you've had time to process it, it's back to strippers, cultists, and psychic waitresses playing super hero.
